Search and Rescue Mission Basics​​

  • October 25th to 26th (overnight)

  • ECC and Millersylvania State Park

  • Mission basics, legal considerations, wilderness and team safety, and search tactics

 

Wilderness First Aid

  • November 8th and 9th at ECC

  • Subject assessment, first aid, splinting, and wound care, etc. 

Rescue Skills

  • December 6th to 7th (overnight)

  • Glacial Heritage Preserve

  • Field subject assessment, subject stabilization, evacuation, and litter packaging

Navigation and Radio

  • January 24th and 25th at ECC

  • Land navigation, GPS, and radio communication

Navigation Practice

  • February 20th to 22nd (overnight) 

  • Capitol Forest

  • Field navigational skills and exercises 

 Training Final

  • March 14th to 15th (overnight)

  • Capitol Forest

  • Final demonstration of all learned skills

*Searchers are required to provide their own equipment, acquired by the first overnight on October 25th.

Additional Requirements

 

Complete one time, no renewal required:

  • Fill out the New Member Application (not yet available; check back in August)

  • Schedule a fingerprinting appointment

    • Call the Sheriff's Office (TCSO), 360-786-5500 (extension 0), and mention that you'll be volunteering with search and rescue (no cost)

    • Appointment will be at the TCSO, located at 2000 Lakeridge Drive SW, Building 3, Olympia, Washington 98502 

    • Bring your WA Driver’s License

  • IS-100.C: Introduction to the Incident Command System

  • IS-700.B: Introduction to the National Incident Management System 

  • $150 registration fee, which includes CPR and WFA cards, WESAR and WFA manuals, a navigation kit (i.e., compass, ruler, and protractor), storm whistle, and graduation shirt
